ESMT admissions 2025: requirements, timetable and tips for success

1. Entry routes by level: preparatory classes, Bachelor's, Engineering, Master's ESMT welcomes applicants at different stages of academic and professional maturity. For science school-leavers, the Preparatory Science Classes (CPS) and the Bachelor's degrees are the natural way in: they concentrate effort on durably acquiring the basics in mathematics, physics, algorithms and networks, with very concrete practical work. Applicants holding a two-year higher qualification (DUT, DTS, BTS, second-year science degree) or a three-year degree can join the Engineering programme or the professional Master's degrees respectively, depending on their goals and prerequisites. The Master's degrees are also open to working people retraining or upskilling who wish to consolidate expertise in information systems, cybersecurity, digital transformation or telecommunications and multimedia. This “multiple doors” architecture avoids wasted time: every applicant starts where they can create the most value, either by consolidating the fundamentals before engineering, or by building on an already solid base to move faster towards architecture, delivery or technical management roles. 2. Application file and timetable: get organised early to avoid the pitfalls A solid application file is the first proof of seriousness. Start with an exhaustive inventory of the documents required: the transcripts needed (depending on the level applied for), diplomas and certificates, identity document, photographs and, where relevant, equivalence rulings and language certificates. Read the instructions carefully, respect the required document formats, name your files clearly and complete the online registration without guesswork. Anticipate the milestones: file submission, entrance test dates, invitations, interviews, publication of results, administrative enrolment and the start of the academic year. Passing the tests: master the fundamentals and practise intelligently The cornerstone of the tests is command of the fundamentals and the ability to reason under time pressure. Build a revision programme around four areas: (i) mathematics (calculus, functions, derivatives, integrals, sequences, probability; practise writing up cleanly, stating your assumptions and drawing a conclusion), (ii) physics and electronics (Kirchhoff's laws, RLC circuits, elementary electromagnetism, measurement), (iii) algorithms and programming (pseudocode, Python/C, data structures, complexity), (iv) networks and systems (OSI/TCP-IP model, subnetting, basic routing, Linux commands). For the Master's degrees, add business cases: a mini security audit, a feasibility study for a digital transformation project, sizing an information system, data storytelling. Adopt a spiral method: summary sheets → typical exercises → timed mock papers → active correction (identify the mistake, reformulate it, correct it). Keep an error logbook and redo those questions until they become automatic. Train your time management (the Pomodoro technique for revision, a three-pass strategy on the day: skim → answer what you are sure of → return to the difficult points). Take care over presentation: a legible, well-argued solution earns marks. Finally, rehearse orals if interviews are planned: be ready to explain your choices, your assumptions and your trade-offs. 4. Looking ahead: funding, certifications and employability Admission opens the way to a career plan, not merely to a year of study. Draw up a budget: tuition fees, day-to-day living, books, targeted certifications (optical fibre, project management – PMP, ITIL, Linux/Network+, entry-level security) and travel for internships. Look into public and private scholarships, support schemes, work-study options and backed entrepreneurial projects. During the course, build a portfolio of evidence: architecture diagrams, automation scripts, monitoring dashboards, audit reports, small cloud and DevOps projects. Seek out chances to apply what you learn (hackathons, challenges, studies for partner organisations). Prepare your internship search early (CV, covering letter, LinkedIn/GitHub profile, references) and target environments that will widen your “skills surface”: operators, integrators, fintechs, regulators, government bodies. On graduating, position yourself clearly: one target job title, three proven headline skills, two or three quantified achievements.
